As part of its Community Mental Health Transformation Programme, East London NHS Foundation Trust (ELFT) is seeking to partner (via its subsidiary, Compass Wellbeing CIC) with one or more third sector organisation to specifically  support our admission avoidance pathway by providing practical and emotional support to families when their children are admitted into Children and Adolescent Mental Health Services {CAMHS) Tier 4 units.

We are seeking applications for a “CAMHS Tier 4 admission family support” provision across Bedfordshire and Luton. The funding, of up to £100,000, is available to deliver the project for 12 months providing a project specifically working with parents, guardians, or carers of children and young people aged 0 to 18 years throughout their inpatient admission stay.

We looking to invest £100k with one or more of our VCSEs in Beds or Luton; this could be as one whole lot to cover the area or split into two lots (£50k each) to cover North Beds (Beford / Central Beds) and then South Beds (Central Beds / Luton) – the aim is to provide support to families whilst their children are in inpatient settings.

We currently have approx. 18 young people from Beds and Luton admitted into tier 4 beds across the region; all of which are out of area for Beds and Luton. In 2023, Evergreen will be open to admissions for young people from Beds, Luton and Milton although the bed availability will be much reduced offering 8 beds on an interim scale.

We are keen to hear from partners about what  model they would be willing to provide where the key focus will be providing practical and emotional support to families when their children are admitted – i.e.: practical peer support / advice on social care support / advice on transport / local areas / unit contact details and models.

Multiple organisations may come together to form a collaborative piece of work.

The organisation(s) will work closely with Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) in Beds and Luton with specific links into the tier 4 and admission avoidance clinical pathways.

The organisation(s) applying should have experience and expertise in:

  • working with parents, guardians and/or carers
  • working with children and young people aged 0-18 years
  • Multi-agency working

The project should be led by a voluntary, community, a social enterprise sector or grass root group. The successful agency (or agencies) will need to demonstrate that they not only have the appetite but also the ability to deliver the project including managing recent risk, having no gender divide and able to provide a service aimed at the target community.

Available funding
