About the fund
East London Foundation NHS Trust (ELFT) has secured a small amount of additional funding to embed experts by experience into the eating disorders workforce. On behalf of East London Foundation NHS Trust’s Community Mental Health Transformation Programme, Compass Wellbeing CIC invites local voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) organisations to express interest in providing a peer support worker (PSW) team lead to work with adults with an eating disorder across Bedfordshire and Luton.
Background
Eating Disorders is a dedicated focus area in the Community Mental Health Transformation Programme as part of the NHS Long Term Plan. There is currently a gap within ELFT’s local services for a peer support worker in eating disorders to support embedding lived experience with its services and the Trust is seeking to meet it with creative thinking, joint working and planning between VSCE and Adult Mental Health (AMH) services as well as with wider system partners. The role of the peer support worker will be to engage with eating disorder service users to show empathy, share experience, inspire hope and promote recovery with the aim of assisting service users to gain and maintain independence in the community through their recovery journey. This support will provide reassurance and emotional support while focusing on practical guidance and strategies to help people move forward to a life worth living and improved health via reduced eating disorder symptoms and distress, improved safety and quality of life. This may include support to access community activities, recovery college, education and employment and to support transitions.
Funding available and timeframes
Up to £15,629 is available from East London Foundation NHS Trust for a 12 month project starting with recruitment.
