In response to the increasing number of adults seeking attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) assessments in Newham, particularly women, we invite local VCSEs to express their interest in creating a peer support service for adults (18+) diagnosed with ADHD or awaiting an assessment.

This initiative, in collaboration with East London NHS Foundation Trust (ELFT), will complement services like our ADHD Clinic, Community Integrated Mental Health Services (CIMHS), and Newham Recovery College. We’re seeking innovative, culturally sensitive approaches that align with ELFT’s principles of peer support: safe and supportive, mutuality, promoting autonomy, hope, social inclusion and connectedness.

The service will aim to help people share experiences, understand ADHD, and cope better with its symptoms and challenges. Support may include group sessions or one-to-one work, delivered either in person or online to meet local demand. To ensure accessibility, the service should include evening or weekend sessions, accommodating those with daytime commitments.

Local service users have highlighted the need for an advice and signposting component to aid individuals through the diagnostic process. It’s crucial to us that the approach is culturally competent and reflective of the community served.

We are currently inviting expressions of interest, not detailed proposals. The available funding is £50,000 for a 12-month project, with potential for adjustment. Depending on the responses, this funding could be distributed among multiple providers or increased for an exceptional proposal. Given the high demand among women for ADHD assessments, we particularly encourage applications from organisations focused on women’s health and support. Smaller organisations are especially encouraged to consider applying with proposals in the range of £10,000 to £25,000.
