In recent years, East London NHS Foundation Trust (ELFT) has worked to nurture and grow its partnerships work with Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) organisations across its footprint. We believe that in doing so, we will better connect with our local communities, reduce inequalities of access, experience and outcomes, and collectively enable improved quality of life for people living in local communities.
A core principle of transformation as set out in the Community Mental Health Framework and NHS Long Term Plan is that these partnerships should be supported by new investment. Upholding this is not only a key priority of the trust’s strategy but also a fundamental obligation as a local ‘anchor institution’ at a time when many of our local VCSE services are at direct risk of closing or losing capacity that currently provides support for mental health service users.
As the lead provider of the North Central and East London CAMHS Provider Collaborative (NCEL), ELFT is committed to ensuring that this vison for VCSE inclusion is a key part of the NCEL Provider Collaborative investment planning. In collaborating closely with grassroots organisations, ELFT has noted the challenges some partner organisations find themselves in following this turbulent period of pandemic and recovery.
We are fortunate to have a dynamic and enthusiastic local VCSE, and through tangible financial commitment to support partners experiencing sometimes existential challenges, we will be able to better support communities, and tackle inequalities (including those highlighted through recent NCEL Strategic Health Needs Assessment Report).
As such, NCEL through the lead provider ELFT is opening a Children and Young People Mental Health (CYPMH) programme of investment in this financial year for projects in the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector with two primary focus points:
Fund 1: CYPMH Inequalities
Open to applications for projects seeking to tackle inequalities in CYPMH access, experience and outcomes or mental health support.
Applying for grants between £5,000 and £50,000.
Fund 2: CYPMH Early Intervention & Community Support
Open to applications from VCSE organisations offering community support and early intervention schemes to help children and young people reduce the need for hospital admissions.
Applying for grants between £5,000 and £50,000.
While we invite applications focused on reducing health inequalities and hospital admissions, we particularly welcome proposals that address the needs of, and extend community offers to, children and young people with learning disabilities and autism.
