Non-Executive Director — Community Voice, Inclusion & VCFSE Engagement
Compass Wellbeing CIC | London (hybrid) | c. 1 day per month | £250 per day + expenses
Closing date: 3 September 2026 (10:00)
Compass Wellbeing is a small organisation with a big ambition: to help communities thrive and to bring people, organisations and opportunities together in ways that improve lives. We’re a Community Interest Company and a wholly owned subsidiary of East London NHS Foundation Trust working alongside local communities, voluntary and community organisations, public services and employers to create real opportunities – from getting people support earlier, to opening up routes into employment and skills, to bringing partners together around shared challenges.
As we begin a new chapter, we’re looking for a Non-Executive Director who shares our commitment to social justice, inclusion and community empowerment. This role has a particular focus on community voice: you’ll help make sure that lived experience and the voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise (VCFSE) perspective continue to shape our thinking and decisions, alongside the core work of any NED – governance, strategy and financial oversight.
We’re committed to building a Board that reflects the communities we serve and we particularly welcome applications from people with lived experience, people from Black, Asian and other ethnically diverse communities, disabled people, LGBTQ+ people, younger people and anyone whose voice is currently under-represented at Board level.
What we’re looking for
- Experience of providing leadership and influence or Board-level experience in the voluntary, community, social enterprise or public sector, or another mission-driven organisation
- A good grasp of governance, risk and strategy, and the confidence to challenge constructively
- Real experience of working with or building partnerships across the VCFSE sector and/or local communities
- Credibility with community leaders and grassroots organisations as well as statutory partners
- Understanding of or lived experience relevant to the communities Compass serves
- A genuine commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion
Previous Board or Trustee experience is welcome but not required – we’re equally as interested in what you would bring through community leadership, experience of the VCFSE sector or lived experience of the communities we serve.
The details
- Time commitment: approximately one day a month including Board meetings, workshops and some external/community-facing activity
- Term: initial three years with the possibility of a second three-year term
- Remuneration: £250 per day plus reasonable expenses
- Location: non-office based; meetings mainly in London with virtual participation where appropriate; some UK travel may be required
